Gray scale is the range of shades of gray without apparent colour.

The darkest possible shade is black, which is the absence of transmitted light or reflected light. The lightest possible shade is white.

The reason that this is important is when a screen displaying moving content that doesn't have a good gray scale, you will have blocks of pixels in one shade of gray only and will lose definition compared to the original image.

It looks ugly, so don't worry about "50 Shades of Gray" at Impact LED, all our Vision Screens have at least 642 different shades to ensure great image reproduction.
